Spencer Reporter - Wednesday, January 2, 1924 - George W. Manning was born in Middlesex county, Ontario, August 5, 1848, and died at his home in Spencer, Iowa, Tuesday, December 25, 1923, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 20 days. Some twenty years ago he united with the Friends church. Mr. Manning had been in poor health for several months and had been confined to his bed for the past few weeks. He came to Iowa, in 1870 at which time he took up his abode in Cedar county. In 1873 he was married to Miss Anna Jane Wareham, who passed away in 1884. To this union were born six children. Again in 1886 he was married to Miss Mary Catherine Gano. In the spring of 1892 they came to Clay county and located on a farm four miles south of Spencer, where they resided for twenty-five years. Mr. Manning was the father of twelve children, all of whom are living with the exception of two who have preceded him, Eckie J and Attie May. He is survived by his wife, five sons and five daughters, namely: Bert D. of Sutherland, Orie D. of Sioux City, Mrs. G.R. Dahms of Verden, Oklahoma, Mrs. J.I. Peasgood of San Pedro, California, Mrs. Will Sellers of Plaza, North Dakota, and Mrs. C.A. Skov, Mrs. Hurt Rossiter, Max M., Ernest G. and Forrest G. of Spencer, also twenty-two grandchildren, five sisters and one brother. The family were an present during his last illness except Mrs. Peasgood and Mrs. Sellers. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 27, 1923, at two o'clock at the Grace Methodist church by Rev. R.L. Stuart. Interment was made in the Riverside cemetery. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. C.R. Dahms and son Kermit of Verden, Okla.; Rev. and Mrs. O.D. Manning and daughter Helen of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. B.D. Manning and son Harry of Sutherland; Mrs. S.C. Loveless of South Bend, Ind.; Mrs. George Newell of Scotland, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Juul and daughter Doris of Mitchell, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kahl of Tipton; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fox of Early.
