Description	:	Violet Nichols Towne stated that George was committed to a mental hospital in Topeka, Kansas, where he died. He died of a tumor of the brain. In 1960 Alice (Nichols) Hale of Greeley, Colorado wrote that the first three children of George and Eda were born near Brookville, Saline County, Kansas,. George Jr. was born in Topeka, Kansas. About the 1903 flood in Topeka, Kansas, she wrote that "We lost everything we had except part of the house and land or lot he (George) had bought there. A neighbor took my mother, my three brothers and myself out of the water with a hourse and buggy. All we took with us was the clothes we had on our back and some quilts. My father had gonto help keep the dam from washing out and nearly got downed but didn't and finally swam to land and found where his family was. So we had nothing left. "We lived there (Topeka) until I was nearly eight years old then (1905) we moved to Grinnell, Kans. (Grove Co.) where Thomas J. was born and later on out to Western Kansas to the homestead. In April ... my father George Nichols ... a 160 acre homestead in Wallace, Kansas. The last three children Earl, Pearl and Henry were born near Wallace, Kans." Alice wrote that her father George had blue eyes, sandy hair when young and that he was short in stature. George Nichols was a patient in the state hospital in Topeka, Kans. for a number of years before he died there in June of 1922 at the age of 73. Alice wrote that before he died that her father was bedfast and badly paralized when she saw him last a few months before his death. He was buried on June 9, 1922 in the Mount Auburn Cemetery.
