| Description | : | A tragic accident occurred Friday morning in Hedrick when Mr. George W. Ritter was struck by a southbound Milwaukee passenger train. The accident occurred at 10:45 AM and Mr. Ritter passed away at the St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa four hours later. Mr. Ritter was burning grass along the railroad right-of-way which borders his lot. Unofficial reports have it that as the train approached he stepped off the track but that when only a few feet from him, he stepped back into the path of the train.
