Taylor was born June 3, 1843, in the state of Ohio, being over 77 years of age at the time of his death at the Soldiers' Home at Orting. He enlisted in the Third Iowa Cavalry in 1861, and served four years in that conflict, being engaged in many of the battles of that struggle. February 26, 1864, he married Martha McNulty, to which union seven children were born, all of whom are living except Albert Taylor, who died in 1903. He enlisted in the Third Iowa Cavalry in 1861, and served four years in that conflict, being engaged in many of the battles of that struggle. February 26, 1864, he married Martha McNulty, to which union seven children were born, all of whom are living except Albert Taylor, who died in 1903. Following the death of his wife he and Florence Scoles were married May 18th, 1893, and three children were born to this union, all of whom survive. He leaves three sons and six daughters to mourn his demise. They are J.W. Taylor and H.D. Taylor of Portland, and C.A. Taylor of this city; Mrs. Clara Taylor and Mrs. J.E. Ballenger of Portland, Mrs. Claude Embree and Sylvia Taylor of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Mrs. J.E. Johnson and Mrs. Aldie Burch of this city. Mr. Taylor came to Kelso to reside about fifteen years ago, and continued to live here until about a year ago, when he went to the Soldiers' Home to reside. While he was living in this city he was elected justice of the peace several times, filling that position with fidelity and faithfulness. In 1893 he united with the Baptist Church. He was a member of C.S. Hamilton Post, G.A.R. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the Methodist church by Rev. E.E. Reisner. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery.
