Description | : | George Wesley Brown was born at Poe, (also called Panther Mountain) Nicholas County, Va. (now W. Va.) in 1839 the son of William, a doctor and farmer and his wife Frances (Dunbar) Brown. He served in the West Virginia State Militia during the Civil War as a Private. He and his family lived for many years in Union District, near Waverley, W.Va. (east-northeast of Parkersburg.)George worked as a blacksmith, and upon his family's move to Craig, Burt County, Nebraska about 1891 he operated a livery stable and helped build the school on the Omaha Reservation.
