Full military rites provided by Wellsburg Amvets Post 91, and American Legion Poat 213. George was born April 8, 1927 in May Lake, Minnesota, the son of John and Mary VanderWerf oekhoff. At the age of 9, George and his family moved to Grundy Center. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945, serving his country in World War 2. On March 19, 1949, George was united in marraieg to Betty Fistler at the Little Brown Chuch in Nashua. He retired from John Deere in Waterloo after 26 1/2 years of service, and had lived in Wellsburg for the past 52 yars. He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, where he was a member of the men's group. He was also a member of UAW 838 in Waterloo. George loved collecting miniature John Deere tractors, tilling gardens, plowing snow, doing genealogical research, and making wooden collectibles. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Wellsburg; one daughter, Deb Starr of Wellsburg; three grandchildren, Scott, Chad, and Allison Starr; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Starr; three sisters, Grace (Delbert) Hippen of Wellsburg, Esther (Dale) Smith of Conrad, and Marlys Clark of Kekuk; and one brother, Arnold Boekhoff of Wellsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight sisters; and seven brothers.
