The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Cedar Rapids Gazette Tuesday 19 July 1932 EDGEWOOD — The death of George W. Ash, 83, Friday removed one of the most prominent farmers of this part of Iowa. Funeral services were held Sunday and burial was in the Edgewood cemetery. Mr. Ash was born Oct. 16, 1848, in Kane county, Ill and came to Iowa the next year with his parents who settled near Strawberry Point. In 1868 he was among the gold seekers to Nevada where he spent three years mining. In 1876 he was married to Miss Barbara Whittman. Since 1877 the family has resided on the present Ash farm. Three sons, Ernest E., Emory C. and Clifford G„ with the widow, survive. There are two brothers, J. E. Ash of Cedar Rapids and Charles Ash of this place, and one sister, Mrs. William Purdy of Oklahoma.
