Description	:	George William Hosfelt was born August 11, 1906 to William and Alice Melzer Hosfelt on a farm one-half mile east of Massena. He attended Massena school and graduated from high school in 1924. He helped his father farm until April 10, 1929 when he married Velma Marie DeVore, daughter of William and Millie Powell DeVore, at her parents home. They moved to a farm one-half mile north of where he was born. In 1976 this farm was recognized as a Century Farm. Read More	George William Hosfelt was born August 11, 1906 to William and Alice Melzer Hosfelt on a farm one-half mile east of Massena. He attended Massena school and graduated from high school in 1924. He helped his father farm until April 10, 1929 when he married Velma Marie DeVore, daughter of William and Millie Powell DeVore, at her parents home. They moved to a farm one-half mile north of where he was born. In 1976 this farm was recognized as a Century Farm. On January 4, 1937 they became parents of twin sons, Gene George and Dean William, born at the Atlantic Hospital. The boys attended Massena school and graduated high school in 1955. Gene entered Iowa State College in Ames for a year and then started farming in partnership with his parents. Dean entered Simpson College the same fall and graduated with a business administration degree four years later. He was drafted into the United States Army and served 26 months. Most of the time Dean was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Gene married Shirley Ann Devine on February 10, 1958 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Des Moines. Shirley was born February 12, 1937. To this union four children were born. Brenda Jean, born February 23, 1959, graduated from Cumberland & Massena School and from Saint Mary College of Nursing in Omaha and is a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Michael Dean, born January 4, 1961, graduated from Cumberland & Massena High School and went two and one-half years to Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Missouri. Michael now farms on his great-grandfather Hosfelt's farm. Christina Ann, born September 10, 1963, graduated from Cumberland & Massena High School and from Peru State College with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a Bachelor of Science in business education. William Joseph will be a senior in 1986 at the Cumberland & Massena High School. Dean William Hosfelt was married to Sally Kay Carmichael on July 16, 1961 at Corning, Iowa. Sally was born May 17, 1939. To this union two children were born. Todd William was born February 13, 1963 and Beth Ann was born March 31, 1965. Todd graduated from Iowa State University in Ames in pre-law with an English major and a double minor in political science and history. Beth Ann will be in her third year in Central College in Pella, Iowa. Dean and his wife live in Des Moines. He is a territorial manager for CIGNA, a merger formed by I.N.A. in 1983. Sally teaches pre-school for three and four year old deaf children.
