Two Workers Killed Instantly In Car Wreck At Hilltop, Car Traveling At Excessive Speed Overturns Four Times Following Blowout. The community was shocked Wednesday morning by the tragic deaths of Mr. George Long of Scio and M. C. Chapman, of Rt. 3, Carrollton which occurred enroute from their work in Canton to their respective homes. The car, driven by J. Russell Myer of Scio, approached the curve at Hilltop Garage when the right front tire blew out causing the car to make four complete overturns on the road before coming to a stop. The four occupants, thrown through the top of the car, were strewn along the highway almost 500 feet from where the driver lost control of the car. David Keister of Carrollton, the fourth passenger is suffering from broken pelvic bone and serious chest injuries. Little hope is held for his recovery. The driver received deep lacerations on the head which are thought to be not serious. The other two men evidently were killed instantly. Miss Jane Hendershot, who lives nearby, was an eye witness to the tragedy and W. K. Dunlap witnessed it from his front porch. George William Long, the husband of Hallie (Wenner) Long who is well known in Carrollton, was 31 years old. Chapman, former resident of Canton had made his home with James Warden, near Waterloo for the past two months. The bodies were removed to the Ollman Funeral home and Myer and Keister were removed to Aultman Hospital. Myer received treatments at the hospital and was released late Wednesday afternoon. The men had worked the regular night shift at Republic Steel and were returning home when the accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Services for Mr. Long will be held Friday at 1:30 from the home at Scio and at 2:00 p.m. at the United Brethren Church at Perrysville in charge of the Arbaugh parlors.
