Read More	Obit in The Correctionville News, 24 September 1959, page 1: George William Malcom was born to Joseph and Permelia Payne Malcom in Avoca, Iowa, on December 25, 1870, one of five children and two stepchildren. He spent his early childhood in Avoca and then at age twelve came with his parents in 1882 by oxcart to Woodbury County and settled in Morgan Township southeast of Anthon. When aged seventeen he served as a civilian scout for the U.S. Army in Nebraska in the last of the Indian Wars. On March 18, 1894, he married Minnie J. Humphreys, daughter of another pioneer family in Morgan Township. They moved then to Tennessee and after a residence there of four years moved back to the parental home in Anthon. Seven children were born to them, all who survive except one daughter, Fern Glennalee, who died in infancy. The family moved to Oto in 1910 and then in 1918 moved to their farm where they lived most of their life. Mr. Malcom divided his time between farming and a real estate business. While there he was active in the work and services of Piero Methodist Church. He also served on the draft board of Woodbury County during World War I. Mr. Malcom and his wife retired from the farm in 1956 and made their home in Correctionville. He passed away after a long illness on Friday, September 18, 1959, at LeMars, Iowa. Survivors include the widow, Minnie, six children, Mrs. Frank (Fannie) Bergmann of Chicago, Vincent V. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mrs. W.C. (Murriel) Eckert of Mapleton, Mrs. Lee (Mable W.) Miller of Cherokee, Mrs. Curtis J. (Marian P) Erickson of Willmar, Minnesota, Donald H. of Middletown, Ohio, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, a brother, Mr. C.A. Malcom of Spencer, Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs. Lenore Schelhaase of Correctionville. Services were held Monday, September 21 at 2 p.m. at Piero Bethel Church with Rev. C.Q. Wallace and Rev. M.C. Benson officiating. Burial was in Piero Bethel Cemetery under direction of Wilson-Hull Funeral Home.
