George Gilmore departed this life September 13th, 1892. Deceased was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, August 20th, 1813, and at the time of his demise was 78 years and 23 days old. His parents were Andrew and Jane Gilmore, both natives of North Ireland and emigrated to America in the latter part of the year 1700. George Gilmore's parents settled in Highland County, Ohio, in 1825. Upon reaching man's estate he was married in 1838 to Miss Mary Leforge. To bless this union four children were born, two boys and two girls; J. A., Wm. L., M. J. and Rachel A. Gilmore. George Gilmore has resided ever since his marriage upon the waters of Brushcreek near Union Chapel, of which church he was a faithful and consistent member, having joined this (the M. P.) Church over forty-two years ago. During his last sickness he was ever uncomplaining and patient, never murmuring, although the hand of affliction lay heavy on him, saying that he was only "waiting," "waiting," to be bourne on that other shore. Conscious to the last, he ever expressed his hopes as being bright for the divine life upon which he has now entered. Scrupulously exact in all his dealings with his fellow-men he had amassed a considerable fortune, but while laying up earthly treasures, he did not forget the laying up of heavenly treasured, where moth and rust doth not corrupt, neither do thieves break through and steal, and, although Uncle George is gone from among us, no man can say he ever wronged him out of a cent. His faithful wife preceded him to the spirit land some years ago, also one of his sons. His son, John A., and daughters M. J. and Rachel A., still survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, but their loss is his everlasting gain, and if faithful to the precepts laid down by him, they, as called to go, may be reunited with him, mother and brother, and form one unbroken family in that celestial city where sad partings never come, and where we shall eternally dwell in the presence of God and Jesus, our Savior. The funeral occurred on the 14th at 2 P.M., being preached by Rev. Overhultz of Wilmington, Ohio, who referred to Brother Gilmore's past life in a touching and feeling manner, after which all that was mortal of was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery of Union Chapel, there to await the resurrection dawning when he shall come forth clothed with the immortal body and walk the gold-paved streets of the New Jerusalem forever ever-more. "How sweet it will be in that beautiful land, So free from all sorrow and pain, With songs on our lips and with harps in our hands To meet one another again."
