(Allen) Crooks was born in Marion County, Iowa, October 7, 1917, to Vint and Eva (Marshall) Allen. She passed away Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Her childhood was spent mostly in Clarke County, Iowa, where she attended school and also belonged to the Liberty 4-H Club. Georgia met and later married Gerald (Bud) Crooks, August 8, 1936 at the Baptist Parsonage in Indianola, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Ken Dee and Keith Laverne. Keith lived only five days. Georgia received Christ as her Savior at 18 years of age in a revival service held at Bethel Chapel by Rev. McKibbens. She joined Bethel Chapel Christian Union Church in Clarke County, later transferring her membership to Chariton Christian Union Church in Lucas County. Georgia enjoyed teaching the Word and gospel music was an important part of her life. In 1953, she and Bud lost their home by fire. They then moved to Chariton as Ken was ready for high school. Georgia worked at Skinner's Store at Norwood some 15 years and also at Montgomery Ward, Spurgeons and Chariton Lumber. She was a member of the Friendship Quilting Club for several years and enjoyed it a lot. She made a quilt for each of her family members. In later years, she gave time to volunteer work. Those preceding her in death were her husband Bud, one son, Keith; one grandson, Ronnie; her parents; two brothers Paul and Denzel Allen; three sisters, Vivian, Winifred and Arlene; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Black and Orville Kilts. Those surviving are one son Ken and wife Marcia of Indianola, Iowa; three granddaughters: Julia and husband Steve Savage of Chariton, Deborah and husband Dr. Eric Pottorff of N. Canton, Ohio, Kerri Crooks of Indianola; two grandsons K. D. and wife Arlene of Albuquerque, N.M. and Chisolm Crooks of Indianola; and five great-grandchildren: Justin and Jessica Savage, Heidi and Thomas Pottorff and Brianna Crooks. She is also survived by three sisters, Othella Black, Elaine Hall and Geneva Long, all of Chariton and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will miss her dearly. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the Christian Union Church with Rev. Harold McElwee and Rev. Pearl Sams officiating. Interment was in the Norwood Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Galen Black, Chisolm Crooks, Justin Savage, Stanley Black, George Orwig and Steve Savage. Serving as honorary bearers were Glen Black, Eric Pottorff and Thomas Pottorff.
