Description	:	Mrs. James Wamsley died at her home six miles southwest of Ragan, at 4 o'clock, on Tuesday morning, February 6th, 1906. Mrs. Wamsley, whose maiden name was Georgiana Kirtley, was born in Montgomery county, Kentucky, September 1, 1852. Mrs. Wamsley united with the Christian... Read More	Mrs. James Wamsley died at her home six miles southwest of Ragan, at 4 o'clock, on Tuesday morning, February 6th, 1906. Mrs. Wamsley, whose maiden name was Georgiana Kirtley, was born in Montgomery county, Kentucky, September 1, 1852. Her girlhood days were spent in the bluegrass state and at Lexington, Ky., she was married to James Wamsley, April 13, 1872. She and her husband remained in Kentucky until 1878 when they moved to southeastern Kansas. They came to Harlan county in 1900, where they have resided since. Mrs. Wamsley united with the Christian church when she was 16 years of age. Although she never transferred her membership to any church in Ragan, her life was that of a sincere Christian. She actively associated herself along the line of a Christian's duty and those who have known her longest and most intimately, speak volumes of praise for one whose highest desire was to aid in some manner, either by a kind word or with helping hands, the friends around her. As one business man of Ragan remarked at the funeral: "No death in Ragan has ever caused as many mourning hearts as that of Mrs. Wamsley." Her death resulted from a complication of troubles following pneumonia. Medical skill had little effect, and could only partially alleviate the pain. During her illness of nearly three weeks, her sufferings were intense, but she endured all with remarkable patience. As the final end drew near, she talked increasingly of a blissful home beyond. She had no doubts as to her soul's welfare, and as her breath came less frequently, her spirit longed to cross the "swelling tide" and anchor, safely home. She is now truly anchored "home." How comforting is the thought to know that the last moments of a dear one were peaceful with her God, and even after death to have the memory of a face that bore the look of repose. The husband and children were in constant attendance at her bed side during her illness. The children are: Mrs. Bernice Ferguson of Kincaid, Kansas, Mrs. Nettie Cover, Mrs. Mollie Powell, Clarence, Charlie, Alvyn and Claude of Ragan. The children are all married except Claude. Besides a devoted husband and children, she leaves ten grandchildren, an aged mother, four brothers and a sister to mourn her death. One brother, Thos. Yocum, and Miss Laura Yocum of Bloomington, attended the funeral. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Ragan, Feb. 7th at noon. The music was excellent and the floral decorations very beautiful. The first song by the choir was "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" a favorite hymn of the deceased. The pastor, Rev. Crippen, selected for his scripture reading I Corinthians 15: 41-48 and his text was taken from Mathew 24: 42, "Watch therefor, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." The remains were laid to rest in the Freewater cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Carpenter, Shumard, Hoffman, Kitchell, Woodruff and Ransdell. Friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives, out of whose life who has gone one, who was unmeasurably dear to them.
