Description	:	Georgina J. Cardoza-Silva, 86, went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 1998. Georgina died peacefully at her home in Blue Lake with her family at her side. Georgina was born in Ribeirinh a, Terceira, Azores Islands, on March 7, 1912, to John and Georgina Lenardo. At the age of 8, she left the Azores with her parents and moved to Cranell, and at the age of 17, she moved with her parents, three brothers and one sister to Ferndale. Georgina died peacefully at her home in Blue Lake with her family at her side. Georgina was born in Ribeirinh a, Terceira, Azores Islands, on March 7, 1912, to John and Georgina Lenardo. At the age of 8, she left the Azores with her parents and moved to Cranell, and at the age of 17, she moved with her parents, three brothers and one sister to Ferndale. There she met and married her first husband of 33 years, John Cordoza (sic), the father of her four children. Georgina sadly lost John in 1963. She remarried in 1968 to Domingo Silva of Blue Lake and was happily married for 16 years, but was sadly separated by Domingo's death in 1985. A longtime resident of Humboldt County, Georgina was well known for her cooking at the Ferndale Portuguese Celebrations for a number of years. She had a true love for dancing, family gatherings, cooking Portuguese dishes and traveling abroad. She is survived by her sons, Henry Cardoza and his wife, Alaris, and Albert Cardoza , both of Fortuna; her daughter, Marlene Whitlow and her husband, Floyd of Alaska; her stepdaughters, Marge Cutone, Joyce Ladd, Betty Silva, Alice Hunt, Lois Waters and Arlene Bacciocco; and her stepson, Donnie Silva; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Joe G. Lenardo of Rio Dell; her sister, Mary Machado of Fortuna; her sister-in-law, Martha Lenardo of Fortuna (wife of her late brother, Frank); her daughter-in-law, Kay Cardoza of Fortuna; and numerous nieces, nephews and her very special and true friend, Francis Mott of Blue Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgina Lenardo; her husbands, John S. Cardoza and Domingo Silva; her son, John P. Cardoza; her grandson, Michael Cardoza; and her brothers, John and Frank Lenardo. Family and friends are invited to attend Rosary services today, May 20, 1998, at 7 P.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 14th and N streets, Fortuna. Mass of Christian burial will be offered Thursday, May 21, 199 8, at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Michael Clony celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Eureka. Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Dewberry, Tim, Tom, Terry, Mark, Randy and Brook Cardoza. Honorary bearers will be Gene and Frank Cardoza, Joey Lenardo, Tony Machado, Joey Sancho, George Hawkins, Johnnie Lenardo and Donnie Silva. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Chapel, Fortuna, where friends may call today from 9 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. and at St. Joseph's Catholic Church from 6 to 7:30 P.M. The family would like to specially thank Dr. Willett and his associates, the staff at Madd River Hospital, Hospice of Humboldt and Blue Lake Police Department for their wonderful care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Ave., Eureka 95501, or any other charity of your choice.
