Read More	Ends All in Suicide Disappointed in Love, Miss Genia Hansen Takes Carbolic Acid The community was shocked Saturday morning, when it was learned that Miss Genia Hansen, the nineteen year old daughter of Chris Hansen, had committed suicide about seven o'clock at the home of Eli Grim. The story, as related to The News, leading up to the suicide tells of a love affair and it a sad one. Miss Hansen had been keeping company with Oscar Grim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Grim, and it is said they were engaged to be married. Mr. Grim has been living near Chambers, Holt county, the past spring, on a homestead with his mother. It seems that he had taken up with another girl in that vicinity and informed Miss Hanson, that he wanted to break the engagement. Last Wednesday she came to Creighton and unbeknown to her parents she went to Plainview and took the train to O'Neill, going from there to Chambers. Before leaving, she mailed a short letter to her parents, stating she and Oscar were having trouble and she had gone to see him and try and effect a reconcilation. This was the last they heard of her until they received word she was dying. Failing to accomplish her mission, she returned to Creighton Friday, arriving here by automobile about 10 o'clock p.m. and later going to the Grim home, arriving there about 1:30, where it is supposed she thought she would meet Oscar. He and his mother also came down from Chambers Friday and asked her to come with them, but this she refused to do and came home along. Oscar had went to his sisters for the night and she was again disappointed. It seems that she had determined on killing herself and made all arrangements to that end, she bought the carbolic acid in O'Neill and went to find her lover that she might die in his arms. She told him she would kill herself unless he would come back to her. She was given a room at Mr. Grims and they supposed she had retired, but instead she was preparing for the awful deed. She wrote three letters, one to her father and mother, one to Miss Mayme Meikle and one to Oscar. Two have been handed us for publication and explain the cause and how she planned the deed. "Dear Mamma and Papa and all; Oh, Mamma and Papa and sisters and brothers, I am nearly crazy with grief and am going to end my life with poson and I want to die in Oscar's arms. Mamma, all of my clothes, night gowns, underwear and all of my dresses, I want you to put in the trunk and give them all the Carrie, all the things I have in those two dresser drawers put in the trunk with all of my dresses, don't give a dress of mine or a skirt away, for Carrie gets them all, even my white dress. Maybe she will never wear them, but I want her to have them. And Mamma, that little glass heart and the little spoon that Gillie gave me, put them away for Edna and when she gets a big girl, tell her they are from her dead sister. All my dishes I want to to have, and oh yes, that jacket, I want you to have and black hat, I want Mamie Meikle to have, maybe she won't wear it, but I want her to have it. Mamma, I want Mary and Chris to be sure and be at my funeral. And now, I want you all to treat Oscar like your own son, he will be almost crazy, but don't look down on him, he is young and don't know how great my love is for him. Papa, I want you and all to be awful good to Carrie and don't let her do very much work and send her away to school, let her have a good schooling, and there is dear little Edna, bless her little heart, if I only had her in my arms now and Lewis and George and Raymond, tell them all to be good and not to forget their broken hearted sister. How I long to see you all now, so will close with all the love a letter can bring. Oh, Yes, Mamma, all the letters that Oscar wrote me, they are in my close, I ant you to put them in my coffin. I want them buried with me. Your daughter and sister, GENIA" This letter was written to Miss Mayme Meikle "Mamie Meikle: In one of those boxes I left by the schoolhouse that day is a stick pin and you give that to Oscar just as soon as you get this letter, for it was meant for him and the other box was face powder you can that and I am going to give you my hat and I hope you will take it and wear it. I wrote and told Mamma to give it to you, I am GENIA" Coroner Kalar of Bloomfield was notified and he came over immediately and after examination of the body and reading several letters and bringing out the above facts, he decided an inquest was not necessary, as it was a plain case of suicide and the cause was evident. Georgine Marie Hansen was born in Cedar county, Nebr. on the 20th day of August 1889. She moved with heer parents to this vicinity a year ago last spring, taking up their residence on the Gus Merritt farm near Salem schoolhouse. She is spoken of very highly, a young lady of a happy and sunny disposition and a bright light in the home. Her parents are most heart broken over her death. Friends and neighbors were generous in rendering assistance and sympathy. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Lutheran church, the services being in charge of Rev. Earl E. Bowen and Re. Hansen gave a short prayer and made a few remarks. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen being members of the Lutheran church and the deceased was a member of the Methodist church.
