He was born March 28, 1939, in Abilene, the son of Ellis E. and Iris G. (Callahan) Bowers. Read More	Gerald A. Bowers ABILENE -- Gerald A. "Swede" Bowers, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Abilene Memorial Hospital. He was born March 28, 1939, in Abilene, the son of Ellis E. and Iris G. (Callahan) Bowers. Growing to manhood in Abilene, he attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1957. On April 16, 1962, he married Floy L. Little. All of their married life has been spent in Abilene. He was employed by the city of Abilene for 38 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks and Kiwanis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glenn Bowers and a sister, Dorothy Smith. Survivors include his wife, Floy, of the home; two daughters, Kari Payne and Susan Larson, both of Abilene; a sister, Marilyn Bowers, of Astoria, Ore.; two brothers, Robert Bowers, of Rohnert Park, Calif., and Jack Bowers, of Abilene; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, from Abilene United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8, at the Danner Funeral Home, Abilene. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the church, the Class of 1957 Scholarship Fund or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Danner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 758, Abilene, KS 67410, or left at the church the day of the service.
