Jerry was born on February 27, 1927 at home in Lakeview to John and Grace (Eringa) Vander Wey. He attended school through the 8th grade in Lakeview. Read More	Gerald Carl Vander Wey (Jerry) passed away on March 20, 2012 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 85, due to complications from emphysema. Jerry was born on February 27, 1927 at home in Lakeview to John and Grace (Eringa) Vander Wey. He attended school through the 8th grade in Lakeview. After that he worked as a hired hand for several neighbors & did custom harvesting. Over the course of his life time he went from working with horses, picking corn by hand; to running tractors and self-propelled combines. He was united in marriage to Altha May on September 11, 1948. Jerry & Altha celebrated 63 years of marriage together. They moved to the home ranch in Lakeview in the spring of 1949 where they lived their life farming and ranching until his death. To this union were born four children. Jerry's favorite pastime was fishing and hunting. He enjoyed sharing these skills with others, especially his grandchildren and the neighbors' kids or anyone who would go fishing or hunting with him. He will also be remembered for the telling of stories about his life experiences. He was never afraid to give a helping hand to someone who had a need. He was passionate about many issues connected to the cattle industry and the rights and freedoms of living in this country. He was an active member of R-CALF USA and the South Dakota Stockgrowers. He was a member of Lakeview Christian Reformed Church where he faithfully served as an officer several times. Jerry is survived by his wife, Altha, of Lakeview, SD; his children Bonnie (Ron-deceased) Green of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Kervan (Jane) Vander Wey of Perry, Michigan; Carla (Randy) Sybesma of Platte, South Dakota and Rick (Kitty) Vander Wey of Valentine, Nebraska. His siblings Urban (Gladys) Vander Wey of Kilgore, Nebraska; Clarence (Ann) Vander Wey of San Antonio, Texas and brother-in-law Arthur May of Omaha, Nebraska;13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Gertrude, his brother John Vander Wey, sister Marie Rowndy and son-in-law Ronald Green. Memorials may be made in care of the family to the Prairie Light Youth Camp or Lakeview Christian Reformed Church.
