Blaesing, 88, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Carrington Place in Muscatine. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, LTC Matthew Moore, Mr. Stephen Moore, Mr. Nathan Blaesing, Mr. David Maliszewski Jr., SGT Isaac Hollingsworth, SGT Jacob Hollingsworth, and Mr. Joseph Maliszewski. Gerald was born on April 21, 1922, in Muscatine, the son of Edward and Clara Fuhlman Blaesing. He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Noll on October 4, 1945, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1993. He married Sylvia Stout Chatterton on April 17, 1999, in Columbus Junction. He was a third generation brick/mason, the craft originated in Germany, by his great-grandfather. He was the owner of Gerald "Jerry" Blaesing Masonry and Cement. He was a veteran of the US Army Combat of Engineers, serving in World War II. Gerald was a member of St. Mary Church. He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #304, and was a Past-Exalted Ruler and past Iowa Elk of the Year. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #388. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling the world. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sylvia Blaesing of Muscatine; two sons, Theodore Blaesing and wife, Loretta, of Cape Coral, Florida, and Joseph Blaesing and wife, Gail, of Urbandale; three daughters, Cynthia Moore and husband, Kenneth, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Joyce Thomas of Muscatine, and Gloria Maliszewski and husband, David, of Gurnee, Illinois; one step-daughter, Cathy Gethmann and husband, Cornell, of Gladbrook; 12 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Blaesing and wife, Patsy, of Muscatine; and two sisters, Arline Bermel and husband, Paul, of Muscatine and Rosemary Bermel and husband, Albert, of Muscatine. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; his grandson, Dwight Hollingsworth; and his sisters, Marcella Cirivello and Bernice Angell.
