Read More	Gerald Eugene Den Herder, 80, of Sioux Center died Saturday, February 24, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center. Den Herder was born January 5, 1921, in rural Sioux Center, the son of John G. and Marie (Vermeer) Den Herder. He was raised at Sioux Center, where he graduated from high school. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City. He married Edna Gertrude Smedley in Alton on June 21, 1940. The couple farmed between Sioux Center and Hull. During the latter part of World War II, he served in the Seabees of the U. S. Navy. They then returned to the farm, where they made their home until 1979, when they retired into Sioux Center. He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory and was a faithful attender of Sunday school classes. He enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Erwin Van Beek of Sioux Center; two sons and dieir wives, Dr. Jerry and Ronda Den Herder of Waterloo and Paul and Ann Den Herder of Haslett, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jane Den Herder; and a granddaughter. Memorials may be directed to the Greater Sioux County Hospice or the Sioux City Gospel Mission.
