Read More	Gerald Keizer, 84, of Alton, iowa, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. Gerald John was born on July 16, 1924, in Alton, the son of John Cornelius and Martha Etta (Stillwell) Keizer. He was raised at Alton, where he graduated from high school. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army for 39 months. For 32 of those months, he was stationed in the South Pacific Theater. On Sept. 3, 1946, Gerald married Marie Lillian Aberson in Alton. They made their home in Alton, where he worked as a well and auger operator for the Alton Well and Concrete Company. In June of 2008, he became a resident of Happy Siesta. Currently, Mr. Keizer was a member of the Alton Reformed Church. He was a former member of the Alton Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon and was also the church custodian. He belonged to the Floyd American Legion Post in Alton, where he served as commander. For 17 years, he was also a member of the Alton Fire Department. He enjoyed sports, especially bowling. Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Marie; a son and his wife, Henry Lee and Ruth (Reicks) Keizer of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter and her husband, Peggy Ann and John Hammer of Moville, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Pam Denzer of Minnetonka, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Keizer and his wife, Jennifer, David Keizer and his wife, Angie, Katie Keizer, Alaina Keizer, Brandon Keizer and his wife, April, Alyssa Hammer and Jada Hammer; a stepgrandson, Cassey Hoeschen; five great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert Vander Schaaf of Orange City; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Ann (Aberson) and Rex Cook of Dickinson, N.D. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas James Keizer; a brother and his wife, Edward and Sena Keizer; and two sisters, Esther Vander Schaaf and an infant sister.
