Read More	The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, October 16, 1947; pg. 1 WEDDlNG ALICE HOFSTETTER GERALD KOHMETSCHER Miss Alice Hofstetter, daughter of Mr. nad (sic) Mrs. Albert Hofstetter, became the bride of Gerald Kohmetscher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alois Kohmetsceh (sic), at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday morning, October 14 at 8:30. Msgr. F. J. Kopecky officiated at the double ring ceremony and celebrated the Nuptial High Mass which followed. The Misses Bertha Hofstetter and Patricia Kohmetscher, sisters of the bride and groom, and Miss Phyllis Rempe, cousin of the groom, sang the Ave Maria at the Offeratory (sic). The bride chose for her wedding, a gown of white slipper satin. Its fitted bodice was fashined (sic) with a heartshaped yoke of marquisette edged in lace. Tiny buttons trimmed the back. The long sleeves were pointed at the wrist. The full skirt ended in a long train. Her fingertip veil edged with lace matching that on the yoke, fell from a tiara of braided net and orange blossoms. She wore a single strand of pearls, a gift of the groom, and carried a bouquet of red roses and white mums. The bridal attendants were the Misses Eleanor Hofstetter and Dolores Kohmetscher, sisters of the bride and groom. They wore identical floor-length gowns of aqua and pink taffeta reresctively (sic). They were fashioned with heart shaped neckline, full shirred sleeves and shirred bodices, on which the full skirts were gathered. They wore a halo of flowers in their hair and carried colonial bouquets of gladioli and roses. The groom's attendants were his brother, Chester Kohmetscher and James Hofstetter, brother of the bride. All wore dark business suits and boutonniere of white carnations. The mothers of the bridal pair wore black dresses with matching accessories and corsages of pink roses. The grandmother also wore black, and a corsage of Talisman roses. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the was bride's parents. A three-course dinner was served to about seventy guests. In the evening a dance was given in their honor in the Parish hall where a large crowd of relatives and friends came to enjoy the evening with them and express their congratulations and best wishes. The bride is a graduate of Lawrence high school and taught one year in the rural schools. The groom spent 20 months in the army, 12 of which were in Japan. They will make their home on a farm 3 1/2 miles south of Lawrence. ========================== The Nuckolls County Locomotive-Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, December 14, 2017; pg. 12 Gerald John Kohmetscher of Lawrence, Nebraska, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 93 years. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017, and Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska, with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Post 45, Lawrence, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Friday, December 15, 2017, from 3 - 9 p.m. at the Lawrence Visitation Chapel in Lawrence. A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date. Merten-Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements. Gerald was born on July 27, 1924, to Alois J. and Helen M. (Lemke) Kohmetscher in Lawrence, Nebraska. He received his elementary education at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Lawrence and attended Lawrence High School. He was drafted in the U.S. Army on May 5, 1945. He spent 16 weeks in infantry training for the invasion of Japan and was sent there after the war for the Occupation of Japan. Since the war was over, they didn't need infantry men so he was assigned to a Military Police Battalion and policed Tokyo for a year. He returned to the states in October of 1946 and received his discharge a month later. Gerald married Alice M. Hofstetter on October 14, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence. They began their married life on a farm three and a half miles south of Lawrence where they lived for five years. They then moved to a farm six miles west of Lawrence where they raised their ten children. They retired in September 1988 and moved to their home in Lawrence. Recently they moved to the Blue Hill Care Center. Gerald farmed and operated a dairy. He was a member of the American Legion and also served as Commander, Vice Commander and Adjutant at times while being a member for over 70 years. He was a leader for the Oak Creek 4-H Club and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Alice enjoyed dancing and were members of the local square dance club. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time golfing. Gerald is survived by his ten children, Lyle Kohmetscher of Lawrence, Ann Swim of Lincoln, Wayne (Linda) Kohmetscher of Lawrence, David Kohmetscher of Blue Hill, Catherine (Martin) Ostrander of Sutton, Timothy (Carla) Kohmetscher of Blue Hill, Gary (Paula) Kohmetscher of Blue Hill, Pamela (Alan) Uerling of Hastings, Keith (Carolyn) Kohmetscher of Blue Hill and Randall (Peggy) Kohmetscher of Blue Hill; 34 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons; two brothers, Robert Kohmetscher and Chester (Helen) Kohmetscher and two sisters, Dolores Kucera and Patricia Kucera; three sisters-in-law Eleanor Schendt, LaVera (Walter) Witte and Bertha Kathman and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, of 69 1/2 years; his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Mary Hofstetter; daughter-in-law Carole Kohmetscher and son-in-law Gregory Swim; brothers-in-law Edmund and Clement Kucera, Vernon, Donald and James Hofstetter, Raymond Schendt, and Irvin Kathman, and sisters-in-law LaVeta Hofstetter and and Kathleen Kohmetscher.
