He married Ruth M. Kopp July 12, 1946. She preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1997. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, served in World War II in the 2nd Marine Division, recieving two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Pentecostal Church of God, Disabled American Veterans, Walter B Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Brotherhood od Painters, Decorators and Paper Hangers of American. Surviving is a son, Fred Long of Ottumwa; four daughters, Ruth Millard of St. Joseph, Mo., Geri Fogle, Betty Gorden and Cindy Jones all of Ottumwa; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Triska; a brother, Melvin Long; and a sister, Anna McNally. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Loyal Hepker officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military service will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of FOreign Wars and O. B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
