Description	:	Gerald Brown, Age 77 of Brady passed away at his home May 1, 2011. He was born April 12, 1934, at home south of Brady, to his parents Melvin and Esther (Yanken) Brown.In his early years he attended Brady School, Todd County S.D. Read More	Gerald Brown, Age 77 of Brady passed away at his home May 1, 2011. He was born April 12, 1934, at home south of Brady, to his parents Melvin and Esther (Yanken) Brown.In his early years he attended Brady School, Todd County S.D. School and then graduated from Valentine High School in 1952. He married Velma Jean Peterson in Pierre, S.D. November 15, 1952. They were devoted to each other for 58 years. To this union five children were born, Mike, Pam, Kathy, Deb and Michele (Shelle). Gerald lead a very full life with a multitude of experiences; he touched many lives along the way. He was a police officer, a tour bus and limo driver for Heartland Tours and Ameristar; he worked for Lincoln Co Roads, sold tractors for Case IH, sold cars, drove the school bus at Brady, and worked at Lever Brothers in California. He was a horse-trader, frequented the sale barn, sometimes working the ring and helped with auctions, he dabbled in the exotic animal business and was a brand-inspector. He did some farming and had livestock that he cared for. Gerald loved God, his family, children and people. He was engaged in service for his community, county and state. He served on the Nebraska State Fair Board for 20 years. As a lifetime member he enjoyed the festivities of the fair each year and was generous in sharing that enjoyment with his family and friends. He served on the Lincoln County Fair Board for over 20 years and as the 4-H Sheep and Goat Superintendent for years. He served as a Lincoln County Commissioner for 8 years; was a former Lion's Club member, served on the Brady Village Board and as the Board Chair; and he served on the Nebraska Cooperative Government--KENO Board. His volunteering continued each Friday night for many seasons as he ran the chains at the Brady football games. Gerald was a member of the Brady Community Church.He had a wild side as well. He participated in the Wild Horse Races for years and attended stock car races at every chance. The most daring rides at the carnival were the ones he liked most. Everyone knew him as a teaser and a bit ornery at times. Gerald's pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He reveled in their successes and shared his love abundantly with them. He could always be counted on to make each one of them feel special and loved. Gerald's enthusiasm, love and orneriness will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Velma Jean, his children Mike (Sandi) Brown of No Platte; Pam (Jack) Mann of Brady; Kathy Hoffman of Valentine; Deb Franzen (Jim Kimmel) of Ft Morgan, CO and Shelle (Stacey) Bladgon of Brady.; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joan (Orrin) Thiede and Janice (Tim) Cook of Springview; Jalene Duggan of California; and Judy (Lyle) Nickerson of Imperial; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Briana Brown. Memorials are suggested to Lincoln County Fairgrounds-Improvement Fund or Brady High School-Scholarship Fund. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Gaslin Cemetery in Brady. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.
