Parker, the son of Leonard and Ethel (Ross) Parker, was born in Charles Mix County, South Dakota, on August 29, 1907, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on October 23, 1997, at the age of 90 years, 1 months, and 24 days. Parker, the son of Leonard and Ethel (Ross) Parker, was born in Charles Mix County, South Dakota, on August 29, 1907, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on October 23, 1997, at the age of 90 years, 1 months, and 24 days. He grew up on the family farm near Lake Andes, South Dakota, graduated from Lake Andes High School, and attended Yankton College. As a college student he joined the J.C. Penney Company. On August 17, 1930, he was united in marriage to Lucile M. Gleich at Yankton, South Dakota. "Jerry" worked for J.C. Penney Company in Yankon, Sioux Falls, and Huron, South Dakota. He became manager of the store in Superior, Nebraska, where they lived for 21 years, and where their children graduated form high school. After serving J.C. Penney for 40 years, he took early retirement and in 1965 they moved to Aurora, and he opened "Parkers of Aurora." In 1973, he retired and they moved to Estes Park, Colorado, where they lived for 18 years. In 1991, they returned to their present home in Aurora. "Jerry" was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ, and since 1944 had served as Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He had served on school boards, Boy Scouts Councils, and in Aurora had served as City Councilman, President of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Hamilton County Red Cross. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club in Superior and belonged to Rotary International in Estes Park and Aurora. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Roger, and one great granddaughter Abby McMinn. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Lucile of Aurora; 2 sons, David Parker of Lincoln, and Dr. Richard Parker of Denver; one daughter Joanne Howard of Wichita, Kansas; 9 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
