Houston, son of Edward and Ellen Houlihan Houston, was born January 20, 1908, at Dunlap and died Aug. 22, 1988, at the Missouri Valley Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Gerald graduated in 1927 from Dunlap Public School in Dunlap. In 1940 he was married to Muriel Egan and was engaged in farming until his health caused him to retire in 1963. Houston, son of Edward and Ellen Houlihan Houston, was born January 20, 1908, at Dunlap and died Aug. 22, 1988, at the Missouri Valley Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Gerald graduated in 1927 from Dunlap Public School in Dunlap. In 1940 he was married to Muriel Egan and was engaged in farming until his health caused him to retire in 1963. To this union three children were born, Richard, Jerry and Janice. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Arthur, Donald, Edward and Vincent. Suvivors include his wife Muriel, sons Richard and Jerry, both of Dunlap; one daughter, Janice Arrick of Missouri Valley; six grandchildren, Jeff, Randy, Pam and Susan Houston; Kenny Pieretti and Denise Arrick; five sisters, Marie Egan of Dunlap, Eileen Schultz of Council Bluffs, Genevieve Havlik of Tama, Iowa, Regina Aschenbrenner of Iowa City, and Lucille Houston of Cannon Beach, Ore., and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25. Celebrant of the Mass was the Rev. John Vakulskas Jr. of Early, Iowa. Music was provided by the St. Patrick Chois with Fran Klein as organist. Selections included "Be Not Afraid, " "Gentle Woman," and "Amazing Grace." Fouts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap. Pall bearers were Calvin Leaders, John Heller, Pat Houston, Leonard Stinn, Dell O'Day, Ed Heffernan.
