Description	:	Gerald Leon McDonald, 74, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. He was born April 15, 1947, in Marshalltown, to George and Lois (Sission) McDonald. Gerald graduated from Marshalltown High School. He married Patricia Burns in 1967. Read More	Gerald Leon McDonald, 74, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. He was born April 15, 1947, in Marshalltown, to George and Lois (Sission) McDonald. Gerald graduated from Marshalltown High School. He married Patricia Burns in 1967. They had three children: Jodi, Lisa and Chad. Gerald and Patricia later divorced. Gerald then married Cheryl Rogers on November 28, 1976, in Marshalltown. Gerald and Cheryl moved to Florida in 1980. Together they adopted a son Dallas ("DJ."). In 1997, they moved to Hampton, Iowa. Gerald worked various jobs throughout his life, including Omnium in Hampton. Gerald enjoyed hunting when he was younger, liked playing cards and collecting John Wayne memorabilia as well as watching his movies. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deep sea fishing while living in Florida and taking numerous fishing trips to Nebraska and Wisconsin. He loved fishing with his son, DJ, his son-in-law Merle Vosburgh, and his friend Gaylen Weise. During his many fishing trips, he was always planning the next. Gerald had the biggest heart and loved everyone, especially children. He opened his home for anyone who needed a place to stay. Gerald's family loved him dearly and would all help take care of him when he needed it. Most recently DJ moved in with Gerald and took excellent care of him in his final months and days. He will be missed by many. Gerald is survived by his daughters: Jodi (Merle) Vosburgh of Sheffield, Lisa (Mike Ball) Giaratino of Mesa, Arizona; sons: Chad (Cheryl) McDonald of St. Anthony, Dallas McDonald of Hampton; four step-children, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, sister Georgetta (Keith) Dohlman of Geneva, brother Eldon (Pam) McDonald, along with fifteen nieces and nephews and all of their families. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lois, wife Cheryl and brother Leroy.
