Description	:	Gerald (Jerry) Orville Steele passed away in Wenatchee, WA on January 31, 2007, due to complications from a stroke suffered in October 2006. Jerry was born to Orville A. and Marion (Kaufman) Steele on June 20, 1925, in Towner County in North Dakota. He attended Hurricane Lake School in Pierce County and Hard Wheat School in Towner County. Read More	Gerald (Jerry) Orville Steele passed away in Wenatchee, WA on January 31, 2007, due to complications from a stroke suffered in October 2006. Jerry was born to Orville A. and Marion (Kaufman) Steele on June 20, 1925, in Towner County in North Dakota. He attended Hurricane Lake School in Pierce County and Hard Wheat School in Towner County. He also attended Cando High School in ND until he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He served as a Motor Machinist on a PT Boat Squadron in the Pacific until his discharge in 1946. After helping his parents move to Wenatchee WA in 1946, Jerry returned to ND in 1948. He worked as a mechanic in Big Bend, ND where he met Lorretta M. Robinson. They married August 21, 1948, and lived in Minot, ND where they raised their children, Dana, Gerry Ann and Melody with a strong work ethic, love of family and respect for others. After the kids were raised, Jerry and Lorretta bought a farmstead outside Douglas, ND where they enjoyed having a huge garden and raising chickens, turkeys, guineas and sheep. Jerry and Lorretta were married 42 years prior to her death in 1990. Jerry worked as a mechanic at Fisher Motors and drove a cab until 1956. He delivered for Saks News Agency until his first surgery for rheumatic heart disease in 1960. He worked at AJH Motors from 1964 until 1974, and worked for Don Moe Chrysler Dodge until his retirement following a second heart surgery and a stroke in 1980. Despite the fact that Jerry didn't graduate high school, he was an expert mechanic, plumber, electrician and carpenter. After his third heart surgery in 1996, Jerry began spending his winters close to his brother and sister in Wenatchee, WA. He continued to spend most of his summers in ND. Jerry is survived by his daughters, Gerry Ann Steele (Gary Taylor) in Missoula, MT and Melody Dawn Marinel (Thomas Tibbs) in Minot, ND; daughter-in-law, Joanne M. Steele in Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Christopher (Andrea) Steele, Aaron (Theresa) Steele, Clint Hultberg, Rae-Ann (Todd) Beaulieu, Vincent (Shannon) Marinel, and Jeanne (Rob) Alves; great-grandchildren, Pierce Steele, Adrianna, Logan and Emma Steele, Mathew and Lily Marinel, Keanna Alves, and Bella Marie Beaulieu. He is also survived by his brother, Lamar Steele; and sister, Lois E. Shier of Wenatchee; and very special cousins, Rosella Mallatt and Ann Steele of Wenatchee. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Lorretta; his son, Dana; his parents; and a brother, Lloyd "Bud" Steele. A Memorial Service will be planned for later this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center, 1312 Maple Street, Wenatchee WA 98801, where Jerry enjoyed many hours of swapping stories and playing pool. Jones and Jones Funeral Home have been entrusted with arrangements.
