Description	:	Gerald "Poppe" Poppenga, 64 of Sioux Falls, passed away Apr. 14, 2007 at Sanford Health Care. Jerry was born on Nov. 4, 1942 in Turner County, the son of Reiner B. and Vernace (Ysbrand) Poppenga. He served in the Navy during the Viet Nam War. Following his honorable discharge, he married Bonnie Nieland on June 3, 1967. Jerry worked at John Morrell for over 20 years until his retirement due to ill health in 1987. Read More	Gerald "Poppe" Poppenga, 64 of Sioux Falls, passed away Apr. 14, 2007 at Sanford Health Care. Jerry was born on Nov. 4, 1942 in Turner County, the son of Reiner B. and Vernace (Ysbrand) Poppenga. He served in the Navy during the Viet Nam War. Following his honorable discharge, he married Bonnie Nieland on June 3, 1967. Jerry worked at John Morrell for over 20 years until his retirement due to ill health in 1987. His greatest enjoyment in life was his family. Jerry cherished his ability to share his love of life with everyone he came into contact. He knew he was the "best damn hunter and fisherman" in South Dakota. Those left to share his memory include his wife, Bonnie; four children and their spouses, Jody and Jill Poppenga of Brandon and their children, Allie, Carley and Riley; Jolynn and David Petersen of Sioux Falls and their children, Andrew, Alyssa and Alec; Jeff and Chantel Poppenga of Sioux Falls and their children, Gaige, Mallori and Nattali; Jeremy and Missy Poppenga of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Francis (Ed) Postma, Deloris Nothdurft and Valoy Poppenga, all of Sioux Falls; a brother, Bill "Willie" (Carol) Poppenga of Lennox; and many nieces and nephews; his granddogs, Luke, Reecy, Maggie, Ruby, Rocko, Pip and Izzy. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Services were to be held Wednesday at Eastside Presbyterian Church with burial at the Lennox Cemetery. Fellowship was held at the Lennox American Legion following the committal service.
