Gerald Delayne Rott, son of Lena (Pfeifle) and Fred Rott, was born November 19, 1944 at Aberdeen, SD. He was brought up on the Rott farm two miles east and two miles south of Leola. He attended rural school and was kept busy helping his parents with the farm. He was also part of a combining crew that worked in the southern part of the country. Gerald was a Vietnam veteran, serving his country honorably in the United States Army from November 4, 1965-September 18, 1967. Gerald married Shirley Janice Hays at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leola on September 8, 1973. They eventually settled on the farm that Gerald was raised on. In 2006, they began wintering in Leola and spending the summer on the farm. Shirley died on April 25, 2010. Gerald spent the rest of his life between his home in Leola and a home that he purchased in Eureka. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizens in both Leola and Eureka. Gerald very much enjoyed hunting, attending auction sales and collecting guns. He loved being on the farm and driving his open cab tractor. Gerald is survived by his daughter Shirlee (Mike Mundt) Hall of Eureka. In addition to Shirley, he was preceded in death by his father on September 10, 1974 and his mother on February 28, 2005. Casketbearers will be Ryan Sanborn, Glenn Spitzer, Jerry Geffre, Dan Erdmann and Dean Schock of Leola and Joe Erdmann of Wetonka, SD. Services in care of Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka.
