Jerry was born on September 23, 1917, in Batavia, Ia., to William Rolland and Sarah O. (Teeter) Hocking. He grew up there on the farm and graduated from high school. 'Jerry' Hocking, 81, of Hooper died at his home in Hooper on Friday, December 18, 1998. Jerry was born on September 23, 1917, in Batavia, Ia., to William Rolland and Sarah O. (Teeter) Hocking. He grew up there on the farm and graduated from high school. On October 12, 1939, Jerry was married to Freida Pratt in Fort Madison, Ia. They farmed for eight years, then Jerry attended and graduated from an aviation mechanic school in Lincoln. He also received his pilot's license at that same time. Then he worked briefly at the Scribner Air Base. Most of his working years were with Standard Oil as a jobber. He retired in 1975, after 33 years with Standard Oil. Jerry was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Hooper. He was also a member of the International Cushman Club and the Studebaker Car Club. He was a member of the Hooper Masonic Lodge No. 72 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite of Ommaha, Tangier Shrine Center of Omaha, the Fremont Shrine Club, and Friendship Chapter 122 Order of Eastern Star of Hooper. Survivors include his wife, Freida; daughter, Shirley and husband David Brandert of Fremont; two sons, Cecil Hocking and William Hocking both of Hooper; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be today, Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. Rev. Greg Berger will officiate. Burial will follow in Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Reedeemer Lutheran Church, Hooper Masonic Lodge No. 72 A.F. & A.M., and to the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice program.
