He was a lover of all games, but... Read More	Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Hughes, 76, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was the loving husband of Sandra Coffey Hughes for 53 years. Born January 17, 1939, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late James Ryland Hughes, Sr. and Doris Tucker Hughes. Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a retired mail carrier at the Fort Hill station with the U.S. Postal Service with 33 years of service and was a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church in Madison Heights. He was a lover of all games, but was especially fond of fishing, bingo, go carts and carnivals. In addition to games, he was an accomplished bowler and played drums with the local band "The Cavaliers." Jerry was a tender and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all fortunate to know him. In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Kenneth Wayne Hughes and wife, Dell, of Evington and Kevin Dwayne Hughes and wife, Susan, of Midlothian; three grandchildren, Amanda DeRosa and husband, Matt, of New York, Zachary Hughes of Charlottesville, McKinley Hughes of Midlothian; a great-grandson, Preston DeRosa of New York; a brother, James R. Hughes Jr. and wife, Patti, of Moneta; a sister, Janice H. Inman and husband, John, of Fieldale; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of Jerry's life will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Jay Carey. Burial will be private in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Bentley Commons and Centra Health Services for their loving care and supportHe was a lifelong lover of animals of all types and his home served as sanctuary for them over the years.
