Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. He was born on March 8, 1948, in Cascade, son of Edward and Clara (Manternach) Wieneke. He graduated from the former Aquin High School, Cascade, and Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. He attended medical school at Creighton, graduating in 1974. Following his residency, he moved to Emmetsburg in 1977 to practice medicine with Medical Associates of Emmetsburg. He was an active partner in the practice until his illness. Professionally, Jerry served as the Palo Alto County Coroner for many years; alternate medical director for Hospice; vice president of the medical staff of Palo Alto County Hospital; past chief of the medical staff of Palo Alto County Hospital; and as the medical director of Emmetsburg Care Center. He was an active member of the community. He served as a director of the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank; past president of the Emmetsburg Rotary Club; past president and board member of the Emmetsburg Art Council; and on the board of the Main Street Community Theatre. He was a generous contributor to the wellness center. Jerry also was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Emmetsburg. Surviving are his father, Edward Wieneke, of Cascade; a special friend, Barb Beatty, of Emmetsburg; three uncles, the Rev. Msgr. Albert Manternach, Francis "Skip (Betty) Manternach, and Sam Kurt, all of Cascade; eight aunts, Dorothy (Adrian) Kurt, Sally Neyens, Irmina "Min" Dolphin and Laura Manternach, all of Cascade, Madeline Intelkofer, of Monticello, Monica Manternach, of Odessa, Texas, and Sister Ann Marie Manternach, OSF, of Mount St. Francis, Dubuque, and Mrs. Joe (Millie) Wieneke, of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Wieneke, on May 15, 1998; three aunts, Theresa Kurt, Sister Julia Manternach and Josephine Manternach; and three uncles, Pete Manternach, Leo Manternach and Nicholas Manternach. A Dr. Gerald J. Wieneke Memorial Fund has been established. -------------------------
