"Andy" Andersen, 53 PORTSMOUTH — Gerald William Andersen, the son of Bill and Cecelia (Gessert) Andersen was born April 27,1934 on a farm south of Westphalia. He died June 5,1987 at Myrtue Memorial hospital in Harlan, at age 53 years, 1 month and 8 days. He was baptized at St. Boniface Catholic church in Westphalia. As a child he moved with his parents to a farm near Portsmouth and received his First Communion and was confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic church in Portsmouth. He attended and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic church school in Portsmouth. On Nov. 16. 1954, he married Gladys Ohlinger at St. Mary's Catholic church in Panama. Five sons were born to this union. After their marriage, he worked for a few years at Cox Fertilizer Company in Tennant. They then moved to Neola for a few years. During this lime, he worked at the Sno-Co Company in Omaha, NE. They later moved back to Portsmouth and he continued to work in Omaha. In 1962, they moved to Defiance at this time he went to work at the Western Iowa Pork Plant in Harlan. In 1978, they moved to Harlan and he continued to work at the pork plant. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic church in Harlan. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, William on July 24, 1967. He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Harlan; four sons, Dennis, Michael and Marvin all of Harlan; and David of Defiance; three grandchildren; his mother and step father, Cecelia and Hubert Zimmerman of Omaha, NE; two brothers, Bill and LaVern both of Omaha; one sister, Geraldine (Mrs Charles) Koch of Des Molnes; one half-brother, Roger Zimmerman of Omaha; nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and other relatives. A Con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 8, 1987 at St. Michael's Catholic church in Harlan with the Rev. David Polich as the celebrant and the Rev. Vince Ohlinger as the concelebrant. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery with Jim Sander, Raymond Andersen. Kenneth Sorensen, Leander Zimmerman, Charles Wageman, LaVern Koppold, Kenneth Suhr. Roger Blum, Eldred Schmitz, Larry Evans, Larry Ohlinger and Galen Pauley all serving as honorary casketbearers and Allen Leinen, Phil Gau, Neil Pauley, Don Heller, Neil Mahlberg and Ray McLaughlin all serving as casketbearers. Pauley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
