Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Gerald William Leek was born to Howard and Mary (Spencer) Leek on Nov. 10, 1933. People said he was born with a shift knob in one hand and a double clutching left foot -- the kid was born to drive. He attended Spirit Lake Schools until his father passed away. Gerald joined the Air Force and worked on planes. Somewhere during this time he met and fell in love with LaVonne Mosley. The two were married on Oct. 22, 1954. With this union, Gerald not only became a husband but also a father to three, Ernastine "Teena" (Mert) Hennings of Worthington, Minn., Robert (Sherie) Leek of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jeffrey (LaVay) Mosley of Sioux Falls, S. D. Boy oh boy, talk about a shock on a young man, but he took on the task and soon he was blessed with a new daughter, Sherri (Dan) Wedeking of Spirit Lake, and later on had a son, William "Butch" Leek, of Newell. Gerald was a hard working, truck driving man having logged more than 2 million miles. During his spare time, he was jack-of-all trades tinkering and working with wood or leather. Gerald passed away March 1, 2014 at his residence at the age of 80. Not only is Gerald survived by all of his children, he is also survived by his sisters, Marilyn Lenz of Spirit Lake and Faye Steiner of Topeka, Kan. and also his brother, Laverne (Donna) Leek of Estherville. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
