Wake services were held Dec. 12-15 at the Eagle Shield Center in Browning. Rosary services were on Dec. 14, also at the Eagle Shield Center. The funeral was Dec. 15 at Little Flower Catholic Church with burial in Willow Creek Cemetery. Geri was born on Aug. 29, 1947 to Dorothy Mae Yellow Owl and Henry Albert Butterfly in Browning. She attended the Blackfeet Boarding School, Browning Public Schools, Chilocco Indian School and Blackfeet Community College where she proudly graduated with her GED. Geri was very athletic in school but was known most for her speed in track and field just like her twin brother. She worked all her adult life while raising her family and said she always enjoyed meeting new people and learning new skills while employed at the Blackfeet Writing Company, the Blackfeet Tribe, the Blackfeet Trading Post and finally the Blackfeet Housing Office for the past 33 years. Geri lived 70 wonderful years and raised two daughters, Cheryl Reevis and Myrna (Chris) Reevis; four grandchildren, Brandon Running Crane, Thomas Reevis, Sequoia Reevis and Sierra Mason; and two great-grandson’s Kolton and Damon Running Crane, with another great-grandson on the way, baby Kai. Geri often said her role as mother and grandmother was the most important achievement in her life. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy as a strong, hardworking woman who praised and loved the Lord, loved her family with all her heart and felt very blessed with all her friends and customers she called gifts of life. Geri is remembered by many for her beautiful smile, loud laughter, her kindness and generosity, her warm friendship, prayer lines and her cultural arts and crafts for every occasion. She enjoyed beading for her family and friends, dancing at North American Indian Days, riding her float in the annual NAID Parade, traveling summer road trips with the family, and decorating her home and office every holiday just to keep the spirit of giving and fun alive for everyone to enjoy. Geri enjoyed everyone’s company and always made time to listen, share stories, give advice and pray together. She loved attending Saturday Mass at the Little Flower Catholic Church, she loved to recite her daily rosaries and called into the prayer line whenever she heard someone was in need of prayers. Geri believed the Lord never left anyone behind. She was a true testament of His love. Geri is survived by her daughters, Cheryl and Myrna Reevis; grandsons Brandon Running Crane and Thomas Reevis; granddaughters Sequoia Reevis and Sierra Mason; great-grandsons Kolton Running Crane, Damon Running Crane and baby Kai; brothers Henry Butterfly and Roger (Janet) Butterfly, Sr.; and sister Kayla (Andrew) Shaefer. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and family friends which she loved dearly. Geri is preceded in death by her father, Henry Butterfly, Sr.; mother, Dorothy Mae Yellow Owl; sister Delores Bird; brothers Daryl Blackman, Harold Butterfly and Gerald “Corn” Butterfly.
