She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Francis (Bud) Higgins, her three brothers; Wendell, Mark and Kenneth Moersen and her sister Angela Lusienski. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment is being held at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Geraldine was born to William and Helen (Krick) Moersen on April 2, 1919 at St. Marys Hospital in Columbus. She grew up in Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure School in 1937. Following her graduation and during the war, she worked at Consumers Public Power District where she developed many lifelong friends. After the war, Gerry married Francis (Bud) Higgins on Thanksgiving Day of 1946. She was a devoted wife, mother and a friend to all who knew her. As her children grew up her home was open to all of their friends, most often sharing special desserts, laughter and good times. God gave Geraldine a special gift of providing very positive encouragement to others. After her children left home, she shared this gift with students and coworkers at a local elementary school working school lunches. She also was part of an informal group who met regularly for lunch at Tooleys. Gerry easily made friends with everyone who met her, bridging all generations, providing encouraging words to all particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even as her grandchildren grew into adults with their own families, they always came to visit, experiencing her positive influence on them. God granted her a long full healthy life, daily sharing her happy and positive attitude with others. Geraldine is survived by her four children, Winnie Olson, Pat Puetz, both of Omaha, Frank Higgins of Ewing, New Jersey and Jeanne (Jerry) Paproski of Anaheim, California. Survivors also include sisters, Camilla Nelson of Omaha, Sister Winifred Moersen, OSF of Colorado Springs, sister-in-law Lois Moersen of Denver and brother-in-law, Tony Augustine of Columbus. She will also be missed by her 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors.
