Description	:	Geraldine (O'Neil) Shugrue, wife of James F. Shugrue of Wethersfield, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at her home. She was born in Norwich, daughter of Patrick and Mary (Murphy) O'Neil. She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1933, and was one of the first certified stenotypists in Connecticut. She was secretary to the President of Angus Park Woolen in Hanover. During World War II, she was a court reporter for Court Martial Proceedings at the U.S. Submarine Base in Groton. She loved music and played the piano and organ and taught piano lessons to many local children.... Read More	Geraldine (O'Neil) Shugrue, wife of James F. Shugrue of Wethersfield, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at her home. She was born in Norwich, daughter of Patrick and Mary (Murphy) O'Neil. She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1933, and was one of the first certified stenotypists in Connecticut. She was secretary to the President of Angus Park Woolen in Hanover. She loved music and played the piano and organ and taught piano lessons to many local children. Geraldine volunteered at the Arthritis Foundation. She attended Corpus Christi Church and St. Luke Church. Besides her husband, she leaves her children, James Shugrue and his wife, Joanne of Wethersfield, Mary Ellen of Wallingford, Noreen and Tom Shugrue, both of Wethersfield; three grandsons, Patrick, Matthew and Christopher Shugrue. She was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 19, at 10am at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich, at 2:30pm. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Foundation, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Wethersfield, are in charge of the arrangements. Hartford Courant, April 18, 2001.
