Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden is in charge of arrangements. 1926-2017 Geraldine R. “Gerry” Eckert, the daughter of Charles and Rose (Friese) Mather, was born in Huron, S. D. on Nov. 6, 1926. She attended schools in Norfolk. On Feb. 19, 1947, Gerry was married to Delbert Eckert at Stanton. They lived in Iowa, Meadow Grove and Norfolk before living in Seattle, Wash. Gerry and Delbert also lived in Stuart, Tilden and Battle Creek. Gerry was a nurse’s aide in the Tilden area for 10 years and owned and operated a café, Gerry’s Place, in Battle Creek, retiring in 1992. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and its Ladies Aid, the Lion’s Club, Lutheran Hospital Guild, Library Board and was a care giver at Community Pride Care Center. Gerry is survived by one daughter and her husband, Diane and Jerry Lulow of Battle Creek; three sons and their wives, Rick and Nancy Eckert of Tilden, Mark Eckert of Meadow Grove, and Marty and Deborah Eckert of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Mather of Norfolk; one sister, Jill Pochop of Fremont, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert in 1971; daughter Kelli Rose in 1978; two brothers, Charles “Bud” Mather and Lyle Mather; and one sister, Shirley Whipple.
