Following a valiant, three-year battle with cancer, Mr. Geiken died at the Tieszen Memorial Home, where he had been a resident for two days. He attained the age of 65 years, two months and 25 days. He attained the age of 65 years, two months and 25 days. Gerhard Charles Geiken was born at Lennox, SD, on Jan. 28, 1930, the son of Harm G. and Sophie (Stratmeyer) Geiken. He attended schools in Lincoln County, SD. On Jan. 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lois Andersen in Lennox. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954, during which time they made their home in Barstow, CA. They returned to South Dakota and started farming in the Lennox and Tea area. In 1959, they moved to Canistota and continued farming until his year. He was preceded in death by his mother on Feb. 17, 1977, and his father on Oct. 8, 1993. Survivors include his widow, Lois; his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren: Gary and Carla Geiken, Kyle and Krista of Burnsville, MN.; Carol and Dave Grooter, Brunswick, GA.; Gayla and Rick Harder, Lindsay, Stephanie, Sarah and Alison of Eau Claire, WI.; Lorie and Jim Mullins, Lance and Kalsey of Rockford, IL.; a brother, Harvey Geiken and his wife, Grace, of Adell, WI.; four sisters and their husbands: Jen and Albert Schmidt of Sioux Falls, Albertha and George Albers of Lennox, Jeanette and Lowell Ludens of Rochelle, IL., and Joyce and Justin Uhe of Sioux Falls; plus many other relatives and friends.
