Gerhard Gerdes, who had been a resident of this vicinity ever since the year 1872, died at the home of his youngest son, John Gerdes, in Cass township, last Monday morning. Mr. Gerdes was nearly 83 years old, but until recently had been very active and had enjoyed the best of health. His death was due to old age and dropsy. Mr. Gerdes was a native of Germany. He was born during the month of October in the year 1819. He came to America and to this vicinity in 1872. During his residence in this country he resided in several different townships. He had made his home with his youngest son in Cass, for some time prior to his death. The deceased is survived by six children. Five of them are residents of this locality, and one resides in Nebraska. His wife died about three years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev.
