Description	:	Funeral services were held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars for Gerhard H. Groetken, Sr., who died last Monday [Jul 2, 1951] at the Sacred Heart Hospital. Mr. Groetken, a retired farmer, has been in poor health for a number of years and his condition became serious during the past month. The Rev. Msgr. J. D. Mr. Groetken, a retired farmer, has been in poor health for a number of years and his condition became serious during the past month. The Rev. Msgr. J. D. Fisch conducted the services and burial was in S.t Joseph’s cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home. Mr. Groetken was born at Springbrook, Iowa, Aug. 30, 1874, and was the son of Herman and Catherine Groetken. He came to this country with parents as an infant. On April 21, 1903 his marriage to Miss Elizabeth Heissel took place at St. Joseph’s church in Le Mars. They farmed near Le Mars in America Township until 1937 when he retired and moved to town. He is survived by his widow Elizabeth and six children: William of Sibley; Sister Virginice, OSF of Granville; Mrs. John (Helen) Braun, Hubbard, Neb.; Gerhard, Jr., Ray and Leo all of Le Mars. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother, Henry, Sioux City; and a sister, Mrs. William Sauter, Varina, Iowa. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
