These services will be conducted by the pastor of this church, Rev. Paul T. Gutknecht. Mr. Bolken's death comes as a painful surprise to his many friends, and obituary will appear next week. Monticello Express, 27 March 1924 Obituary of Gerke Bohlken Gerke Bohlken, for forty-eight years a resident of this vicinity, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph G. Bohlken, in Wayne Township, last Thursday morning, at 6:30 o'clock. Mr. Bohlken had been in poor health during the major portion of the winter and sustained a stroke of paralysis on Thursday evening, March 18th, which contributed to the cause of his death. The deceased was born in Hesel, Frisia, Germany, November 19, 1843, and therefore was 80 years, 4 months and 1 day of age at the time of his decease. At the age of 26 years, June 3, 1870, he married Katherine Von Hagel. They immigrated to the United States in 1876, and settled in this vicinity. There were four children born to this union, Carl died when he was 15 years od age. The remaining children are John Bohlken, Hastings, Minnesota; Mrs. Paul Jacobs and Mrs, Adolph G. Bohlken, of Wayne Township. Mr. Bohlken's wife died thirteen years ago, in 1911. In addition to his children Mr. Bohlken is survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sister Meta Rickels, Rockwell City; one brother, Henry Bohlken, of Platteville, Colorado. During the past eight years, Mr. Bohlken has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Adolph G. Bohlken. Shortly after he settled in America, he became a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wayne Township. He proved himself a loyal member by his faithful attendance, andgreatly did he regret when his advanced age made his regularity impossible. He was a man who had many friends, and enjoyed the respect of those who knew him. The funeral services were conducted at the Adolph Bohlken home at one o'clock last Monday afternoon. Final services were held at St. John's at two o'clock. Both services were conducted by the pastor of that church, Rev. Paul T. Gutknecht. Burial was had at the cemetery adjoining the church.
