Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 11:00 am Sunday, October 4, 2009 with the family present from 3:00 to 6:00 Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Read More	Gerrit Septer (Died October 1, 2009) Gerrit Shorty Septer, 94 of Montezuma, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma. Gerrit Henry Septer, son of William and Jannetje (Beyer) Septer was born on January 5, 1915 in Veenendaal, Holland. In 1920 along with his Mom, Dad, Aunt Margaret, and four siblings, the family moved to America settling in the Sully area. Shorty attended Searsboro School through the 8th grade before staying home to help his Dad farm. In 1937 Shorty went to work in Pella at the strip mines and Rollscreen Factory. Later he helped his brother, Bill, as a farm hand and worked for Steenhoek Brothers at Leighton. After a five year courtship, Shorty was united in marriage to Johanna E. Rouw in the Central Reformed Church Parsonage on January 17, 1940. To this union four children were born, Bob, Beverly, Debbie and Bill. Shorty and Joann lived their whole lives on a farm northwest of Montezuma where he farmed until the mid 1980. He always said he felt close to God working the land. He loved playing any kind of cards especially Pepper, 500 and Pitch and enjoyed horseshoes, fishing and visiting with family and friends. Shorty never knew a stranger and often quoted,there are no strangers just friends that we have met. Shorty had been active in Grange, Farm Bureau, NFO, Township Trustee and was a 60 year member the Ewart Presbyterian Church where he served every position possible until its closing last year. Shorty was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joann, on July 19, 1992, granddaughter, Crisha Hedrick; three brothers, Bill Septer, Rich Septer and Chris Septer and five sisters, Tina Uitermarkt, Christina Baltisberger, Margaret Walker, Rek Hemsberger and Minnie Dieleman.
