A quartet composed of Randall Hall, Jr., Richard Mylin, Mrs. Otho Rix and Mrs. Kermit Sperry sang. Mrs. Norma Chilton sang a solo. Burial was in the Groton cemetery. In the year of 1906, he was married to Mary Vander Stoep, at Maurice, Iowa. The couple came to South Dakota in 1909, settling on a farm in the Andover vicinity near the Day County line, moving to the Groton community in 1941. To this union seven children were born. The departed was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Van De Brake passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 1, 1954, from cancer, from which he suffered the past three years with a great deal of patience and fortitude. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and a thoughtful neighbor and friend. Survivors are his wife, Mary; four daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Losey, Yakima, Wash.; Mrs. E. J. Thompson, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. O. P. Foster, Arcadia, Calif.; Mrs. Ewald Pigors, Groton; three sons, Claude, Yakima, Wash.; Edward, Pierpont, and Robert, Groton; also nineteen grandchildren. Out-of-town relatives attending the last rites were his children, Mrs. O. P. Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Van De Brake and three children, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Van De Brake. His sisters from Iowa, Mrs. Henry Eggink, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Borgman, Mrs. Richard Schaap, Mr. and MRs. Gerrit Zeutenhorst; nieces and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Rons, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Evenhuis, Mrs. James Vanderploeg, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schaap, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Noteboom, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Woefswinkle, Stanley Campayne. Relatives of Mrs. Van De Brake were: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Vander Stoep, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Vander Stoep, Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Vander Stoep and John Van Roekel.
