Description	:	This community was deeply grieved upon hearing the news of the death of Mrs. Ed Van Putten Sr. She underwent an operation for gall stones several weeks ago. On Wednesday she was taken to the Oelrich hospital again and had another operation. She failed rapidly and passed away Friday evening about nine o'clock. Read More	This community was deeply grieved upon hearing the news of the death of Mrs. Ed Van Putten Sr. She underwent an operation for gall stones several weeks ago. On Wednesday she was taken to the Oelrich hospital again and had another operation. She failed rapidly and passed away Friday evening about nine o'clock. She was 61 years old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Gertie De Vries. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. De Vries of Sioux Center. On April 30, 1903 she was married to Mr. Ed Van Putten. They lived in this vicinity all their lives except for three years they lived at Perkins where they operated the general store. The past few years they lived between Ireton and Sionx Center. They were parents of six children: Gertie of Sioux Center, Sadie at home, Ed of Chamberlain, S. D., Gerben who is a minister at Muskoda, Wis., Mrs. Gerrit Punt of Sioux Canter, and Gertrude at home. Arthur De Jong, a son of her niece, also made his home with them the past several years. Five grand children survive her. Also her husband and sisters Mrs. Vanden Brink of Sioux Center, Mrs. Vande Gaarde of Sioux Center, Mrs. Will Rikkers of Carmel, Mrs. John Te Slaa of Hull and Mrs. John Scholten of Hull, and two brothers: Abe and Henry De Vries of Sioux Center. Two sisters preceded her in death, Mrs. John Smith and Mrs. Peter Vande Berg. Funeral services were held Tuesday Oct. 6 at one o'clock at the home and two o'clock at the First Reformed Church. Rev. Brnnsting officiated. Pallbearers were Gerben De Vries Al De Vries, Gerben Te Slaa, Marion Wissink, Irwin Mouw all all nephews and Rueben Schipper their hired man. Those who attended from out of town were Rev. and Mrs. Gerben Van Putten and daughter of Muskoda, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Jongerius of Rock Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Van Putten of Fulda, Minn., and Mrs. Richard Dykstra of Rock Valley.
