Gertie Pitts was born at Upola, Kansas, December 22, 1893, and was the oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Pitts. She was a bright little girl and had a kind, loving and obedient disposition and although still quite young she was a professed Christian and regular attendant at church and Sunday school at the M. E. Church, being a member of Mrs Worley's class. he had been troubled with her throat for two to three weeks and at times appeared to improving but the disease had secured so firm a hold on the little sufferer that death finally conquered and the young spirit passing over the dark river to the great beyond. The funeral service was held in the city at the family residence on East 5th street, Sunday, April 5th at 10 o"clock am. Rev. W M Leiser, pastor at the M. E. church conducting the services, and the remains were taken to the Upola cemetery for burial. The bereaved family have a heartfelt sympathy of a large number of friends in their sad affliction.
