Munchrath, sr., at 9:30 o’clock yesterday morning was suddenly attacked with heart failure and died within a few minutes before a doctor could reach her side. Mrs. Munchrath, whose home was at Leeds, had been nursing her daughter, Mrs. Bennett, during the last two weeks. While at the Bennett home she herself suffered a stroke of illness, but seemingly was quite recovered and had made all preparations to return to Leeds yesterday. Before her unlooked for death she declared herself to be feeling unusually well. While rocking in the chair Mrs. Munchrath gave a sudden start, clutched at her heart and sank back. Mrs. Bennett was with her at the time and hastily summoned assistance, but it was of no avail. The deceased woman was one of the pioneer settlers of Sioux City. Born November 11, 1837, at Castor, near Cologne, Germany, she moved to America in 1854 and settled in Chicago. On November 8, 1855, in Dubuque, she was married to F. Munchrath, and the golden anniversary of this event was celebrated in Sioux City last November. In the early part of 1858 Mr. Munchrath walked from Dubuque to Sioux City. Pleased with the outlook for the frontier town he sent for his wife, and three months later, traveling behind an ox team, she arrived to take up her residence in Sioux City, where she had since lived. Mr. Munchrath was a mason and served as a contractor for several years. In 1873 he entered the book business, and for a short time later he was landlord of the Tremont house. He was a member of the city council for several years. Recently he has lived a retired life at Leeds. Mrs. Munchrath is survived by her husband and seven children, as follows: Mrs. A. Danquard, Fred Munchrath, jr., Mrs. James Cussens, Mrs. C. H. Lampson, Alex Munchrath, Felix Munchrath and Mrs. C. S. Bennett, all of Sioux City. The funeral will be held at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning at St. Boniface’s Catholic church, Rev. H. J. Schleier officiating. Interment will be in Floyd cemetery. Munchrath, who died suddenly of heart failure Monday, was held at 10 o’clock in the morning at St. Boniface Catholic church, Rev. H. J. Schleier officiating. The services were largely attended.
