Description	:	Gertrude Alice Lammers, daughter of William and Agnes (Koch) Weir, was born July 11, 1925, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She attended school at St. Mary's Academy in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1943. On June 18, 1945, Gertie was united in marriage to Roland William Lammers at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union three children were born. Gertie was employed at Larson's Produce where she candled eggs. She later drove school bus for both the public school as well as the Catholic school. Read More	Gertrude Alice Lammers, daughter of William and Agnes (Koch) Weir, was born July 11, 1925, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She attended school at St. Mary's Academy in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1943. On June 18, 1945, Gertie was united in marriage to Roland William Lammers at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union three children were born. Gertie was employed at Larson's Produce where she candled eggs. She later drove school bus for both the public school as well as the Catholic school. She also operated Gert's Snack Bar at the Palo Alto County Fair. Gertie was employed at Berkley's for several years and she truly enjoyed the years she spent there. Most recently she worked at McNally's Bake Shop and the Redwood Café. Gertie was a devoted farm wife, mother and homemaker, helping Roland on the farm as well as caring for her children. She loved horses and ponies and shared that love with her children. She was active in Saddle Club, Pony Express, rodeos at the Reeves Ranch and Chuck Wagon Races in the area. Gertie was a member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg. She was also a member of the Coachman Camping Club, Great Lakes Driving Club, and Midwest Pony Pulling Association. Gertie will be remembered not only for her love of horses and ponies but for her strong desire to stay active and her work ethic. Gertie passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Lammers; a granddaughter, Toy Lammers; brothers, Tom Weir, Jack Weir, Bob Weir and William Weir; sisters, Mary Weir in infancy, Josephine Akridge, Patricia Carroll, and Dorothy Guinn. She is survived by her children, Roland Lammers, Jr. and his wife, Teresa of Rembrandt, Iowa, Vincent Lammers of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Marcie Strohman and her husband, Roger of Emmetsburg, Iowa; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Edna "Tooty" Guinn of Estherville, Iowa and Bridget Meinke of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
