Gertrude Ann (Nuesch) Petersen passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska. She was born on December 10, 1927 at Bancroft, Nebraska to Meinrad and Bertha (Rohner) Nuesch. At the age of three she moved with her parents to a farm northeast of Neligh. Gertie attended grade school at a country school known as Black Lake District 56. After graduating from Neligh High School in 1945, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Contois Motor Company. Gertie married Kenneth Petersen on April 24, 1949 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilden. To this union three children were born. She was a hard worker all of her life and did bookwork from her home while raising her children. She also worked at the Meadow Grove elevator. Gertie enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning and always had something sweet on her counter. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary. Gertie is survived by her son, Stan (Sue) Petersen, daughter, Shirley Lieswald (fiancé Philip Roewert) and son, Larry Petersen all of Tilden; seven grandchildren, Misty Petersen of Lincoln, Patrick Petersen of Meadow Grove, Melinda (Tyler) Kraus of Mullen, Seth Petersen of Sioux Falls, SD, Bridget (Ethan) Planer of Tilden, Traci (Matt) Beckman of Elgin, and Kelcie Lieswald (fiancé Luke Backer) of Norfolk; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth in 2007; sisters, Bertha Clark and Vera Heithoff; and brother, Minrod.
