The couple made their home on various farms in Crawford County... Read More	GERTRUDE ANNA (RABE) GRESS Gertrude Anna Gress was born October 8, 1925, the daughter of Fred and Edna Eyer Rabe. She died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-three. Gertrude was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa, and received her education in a rural school near her home. On January 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to Carroll Gress at the Reorganized Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Dow City. The couple made their home on various farms in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of one son. She loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. The couple enjoyed square dancing. She also liked playing Bingo at the Senior Center. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carroll in 1987, and a nephew Grant Bahls in 2008. Survivors include one son, James and his wife, Anita; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Scott and Jeffery; and Laurie and her fiancé, Richard and her children, Dezmond and Rylee; four step-grandchildren, Tim and his wife, Marlene; Sheri and her husband, Donnie; Steven and his wife, Deb; and Randy and his wife, Kandi; and twelve step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Ken Baughman officiated the service and graveside rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Organist Joyce Hanson provided accompaniment for soloist Larry Boeck singing "How Great Thou Art," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Other musical selections included "I Can Only Imagine." Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Jeffery Hainsworth, Randy Archer, Tim Archer and Scott Gress. Pallbearers were Donnie McNeley, Dezmond Gress, Steven Archer, Trevor Gress, Richard Luth and Aaron Gress. The family invited everyone to the Charter Oak Community Building for fellowship and lunch served by the Methodist Women. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
